About the role
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be at the helm of Fortify Health's substantial growth over the next few years: by June 2025, we aim to grow from 40 to over 100 mill partners, become a go-to partner for wheat flour fortification in state safety net programs for state governments, and double our team size from 50 to 100 team members. 

The CEO is responsible for providing direction and leadership towards the achievement of Fortify Health’s mission and strategic goals and objectives. Accountable to the Board of Trustees and Advisory Group, the CEO heads the global leadership team (GLT), which oversees the work of the organisation.

The CEO will be responsible for the whole range of Fortify Health's activities and their tasks may vary substantially year to year / week to week. They will be a team leader  - holding the wider team accountable to be effective in meeting ambitious key targets, and playing a key role in sustaining Fortify Health’s positive, open team culture. They will be an ambassador - developing and co-leading key partnerships with funders, and ensuring Fortify Health has a sustainable funding pipeline. They will be a leader by example - embodying and living the values of being humble, ambitious and solutions-oriented, as the team member with the most significant influence on Fortify Health’s team culture and long-term impact. They will be a questioner - leading Fortify Health toward its vision using an eye for data and evidence.

Responsibilities and activities
  1. 1) Leading the development and execution of Fortify Health’s organisational strategy and ambitious growth
  2. 2) Facilitating and making effective decisions and judgement calls that advance Fortify Health’s purpose, goals and values
  3. 3) Driving Fortify Health’s fundraising efforts and ensuring the long-term financial health of the organisation
  4. 4) Overseeing and mentoring the Executive team and sustaining a positive, fair work culture

Requirements
  • • A balance of humility, ambition and enthusiasm about Fortify Health’s opportunity to cost-effectively improve people’s lives: The CEO will hold themselves and the whole organisation accountable to the vision and mission of Fortify Health
  • • Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills: For a range of internal and external stakeholders, the CEO will a) exercise strong judgement around how to adapt their communication style for their audience; and b) engage and listen empathetically, clearly, and openly
  • • Excellent ability to think strategically: The CEO will need to zoom out of the day-to-day work of Fortify Health in order to set priorities across longer timelines. They will have the ability to foresee potential issues, diagnose problems quickly, and preemptively address them
  • • Excellent ability to learn, absorb and act on new information: The CEO will be able to consume and synthesise relevant data and evidence to support high-quality decision-making. They will have a solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics. They will have the ability to make decisions under conditions of uncertainty, taking responsibility for outcome
  • • A genuine enthusiasm to lead and work with people, and bring out the best in fellow team members: The CEO will hold ultimate responsibility for building and maintaining a positive and productive organisational culture, supporting others to meet and surpass their goals
  • • A strong understanding of impact measurement, monitoring and evaluation and the principles of effective altruism
  • • Willingness to travel to India at least twice a year if not based in India full-time
  • • Prior experience working in India, ideally within the development sector ​​
